Corona Virus And Its origin
The World Health Organisation (WHO) On December 31, 2019 heard the first report of an unknown virus(now known as Covid-19) causing pneumonia in Wuhan, a city in Eastern china with a population of over 11 million.
What started as an epidemic mainly limited to china has now become a truly global pandemic. There have now been over 353,681 confirmed cases and 15,420 deaths, according to worldometer. The disease has been detected in more than 150 countries and territories. Italy, Iran, Germany, Spain experiencing the most widespread outbreaks outside of china. In the India, there have been 467 plus confirmed cases and 8 deaths as of Today (March 23, 2020).
HOW THIS VIRUS GOT IT'S NAME
Worldwide, although it is popular as coronavirus, but on Feb 11, WHO gave it the official name as "COVID-19". The virus that causes that disease is likely to be called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2, or Sars-Cov_2 for short, according to draft paper from the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses.
What Actually Happened In Wuhan
The disease appears to have originated from a Wuhan seafood market where wild animals like marmots, birds, rabbits, bats and snakes are traded illegally.
coronaviruses are known to jump from animals to humans, so it's thought that the first people infected with the disease- a group of people primarily made up of stallholders from the seafood market - contracted it from contact with animals.
According to an initial analysis, Covid-19 is so similar to viruses seen in Snakes. the hunt is still on for the animal source. A team of virologists at the Wuhan institute of virology released a detailed paper showing that the new coronaviruses genetic makeup is 96% identical to that of coronavirus found in bats.
